The American Cancer Society (ACS) hosted more than 170 guests at its 2015 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer kick-off breakfast held on Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Morrisville, North Carolina.

Featured guest speakers included surgical oncologist Shelley Hwang, MD; Steven Patierno, PhD, DCI deputy director; and Kim Malugen, DCI Survivorship Center.

The 2015 Making Strides walk event will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at North Hills Mall in Raleigh. Duke Cancer Institute has teamed up for a second year to serve as local presenting sponsor. To date, the DCI hosts a number of individual teams and four corporate teams, including Duke Cancer Institute, Duke Cancer Center Raleigh, Duke Cancer Center Macon Pond and Duke Cancer Center Cary. Together, the teams boast more than 100 members. The ACS hopes to raise more than $300,000 this year. To join a DCI team, contact Tina Piccirilli at 919.684.8571 or visit our DCI teams page.
