Michael B. Kastan, MD, PhD, executive director of the DCI, will host the Sixth Annual DCI Anniversary Celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the lobby of Duke Cancer Center. The annual event celebrates the previous year’s milestones while also recognizing the achievements and exceptional service of DCI faculty and staff. The DCI will present Superstar Awards in the following categories:
- Exceptional Care – this award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary effort to support and care for a cancer patient(s).
- Exceptional Colleague – this award recognizes an individual who demonstrates extraordinary effort in support of a colleague(s).
- Lifetime Achievement – this award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated excellence throughout his or her career.
This year's event will feature live performances by Duke Raleigh ICU nurse Daniel Nickels. Nickels, also a rising singer-songwriter, will release his debut solo album, The Answer, in October. In honor of his aunt, who recently lost her battle with breast cancer, Nickels is donating to the DCI, specifically the lab of Donald McDonnell, the proceeds from the pre-sales and sales of the album up until Nov. 15. His fundraising campaign is known as Album For A Cure. Nickels will perform a collection of original songs. Award winners will be announced at the DCI Anniversary Celebration. Refreshments will be served. Super Stars nominations are due Oct. 7, 2016. Click on link to access a nomination form DCIAwardNomForm.16.
