Hope Uronis, MD,MHS, associate professor of medicine, was recently selected by Duke University Hospital to receive the Strength, Hope and Caring Physician Award.
“Dr. Uronis is a physician who lives Duke’s values each and every day,” wrote strategic services associate MaryAnne Y. Zabrycki, MSW, LCSW, ACSW, in her nomination. “I can recall a time when Dr. Uronis, while taking care of her own patients, attended to the care of a staff member who was not well. Dr. Uronis provided care for the staff member until such time as transportation could be arranged for further care in the Emergency Department.”
Uronis received her medical degree in 2000 from the University at Buffalo Jacob School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Duke University.
“Dr. Uronis has the patient at the center of all she does,” continued Zabrycki. “She always does what she can whenever she is needed.”
The Strength, Hope and Caring program rewards Duke faculty and staff who exceed expectations and whose actions reflect the organization’s core — providing strength to those who are suffering, hope to those served and care beyond the clinical sense of the word.
There are five award categories, including Clinical, Non-Clinical, Physician, Leadership and Team. Nominations are reviewed by a program committee, a subset of the hospital’s Human Resources Advisory Group.
Winners are presented with a certificate and an SHC program logo pin. Each year the hospital hosts a Strength, Hope and Caring Gala to celebrate awardees from throughout the previous year. An additional award is given at the gala to one deserving awardee from each of the five categories.
