Sample Named Assistant Vice President, Clinical Programs

Laura Sample, MHA, has been named assistant vice president for Duke Cancer Institute’s clinical programs.

In her new role, she will serve as the senior leader for the administrative functions of the disease-based programs, providing oversight for the development of strategic business plans focused on the integration of clinical services and research. 

Most recently the director of business development for Duke Network Services, Sample will utilize her strategic and business planning strengths to ensure the coordination of high quality patient care across Duke Cancer Institute.  

Sample’s many contributions during the past three-and-a-half years with Network Services include her work on the development and implementation of the Duke Triangle Endoscopy Center, the acquisition of Cancer Centers of North Carolina, the Cancer Care Plus and Heart Care Plus collaborations with WakeMed, and she is currently leading efforts for the development of a Proton Center at Duke with the DCI and the Department of Radiation Oncology. 

Prior to joining Network Services, Sample worked for seven-and-a-half years in Strategic and Clinical Services Planning at Duke University Health System, where much of her focus was with the Duke Raleigh Hospital, Wake County and primary care leadership teams.

Sample also worked briefly as an intelligence analyst for the FBI and as an international health policy research coordinator for Duke University.

In May 2004, Sample received her Bachelor of Science in biology from Duke University. She received her Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010. In 2006 she received the Duke University Presidential Award for Meritorious Service.

Sample will assume her new role on Monday, Feb. 19.
