WATCH RECORDING: Do I Say “Yes” or “No” to Research Participation?

Community members of historically marginalized and underrepresented groups are reluctant to participate in research. Historically, this reluctance is acknowledged and justified; however, many protections have been implemented to prevent unethical behaviors. Many community members are not familiar with the research process.
On May 18, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the leader of the Duke Cancer Institute Office of Health Equity, Angelo Moore, PhD, RN, NE-BC, gave an overview of that process. He presented basic information about research that serves to provide a good foundation to help patients ask the right questions and assist them in making an informed decision about whether or not to participate in research.
After his presentation, Moore was joined by several African American men from the Men’s Health Council of Durham County who discussed their experiences participating in clinical trials.
