Run With Angels

Since 1994, Angels Among Us has been celebrating hope in the fight against brain cancer by stepping out and raising funds to support research at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke. This year’s 5K run and 3K family walk is expected to attract more than 2,000 participants and raise over $2 million. Slated for Saturday, April 25, the event has already raised $153,000 toward its goal.

“Angels Among Us is a celebration of life, strength, courage and commitment,” said Ellen Stainback, the event’s organizer and director of external relations for the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center. “Last year’s event raised a record $2.1 million. Over its 21-year history, Angels Among Us has contributed more than $16 million to help find a cure for brain tumors. We raise these funds with the help of almost 400 teams participating from throughout the U.S.”

Angels Among Us begins with a 5K run through Duke University’s campus, followed later by a 3K family walk through the Sarah P. duke Garden. The event features a silent auction, refreshments and activities for children. Awards are given for the top 10 fundraising teams, top newcomer team and top five tee-shirt designs.

Check-in begins at 7 a.m., with the 5K certified run starting at 8 a.m. and the family fun walk, a stroll through the Duke Gardens, beginning at 10:50 a.m. Awards will be presented at 9:50 a.m. and the closing ceremony will take place at 11:45.
