Get in the game — know your scores. Duke Cancer Institute's Office of Health Equity (OHE) and its partner Lincoln Community Health Center will offer FREE prostate cancer screenings on Saturday, Sept. 8, and Sunday, Sept. 9. Men between the ages of 45 and 75, who have never been diagnosed with prostate cancer, are encouraged to participate in the free screening. The prostate cancer screening includes specific antigen (PSA) and digital rectal exam (DRE). Free blood pressure exams and diabetes testing and other disease screenings will also be available.

According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death in American men. In the U.S., one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime. Men of African descent are 73 percent more likely to develop prostate cancer than Caucasian men, and are nearly 2.3 times more likely to die from the disease. Research shows if prostate cancer is caught at its earliest stages, most men will not experience any symptoms. It is nearly 100 percent treatable if detected early.
