A new open-access book written by experts in the field of oncology, hematology, and stem cell transplantation — "The Comprehensive Cancer Center" — is now available for download.
Co-edited by Nelson Chao, MD, MBA, the Donald D. and Elizabeth G. Cooke Cancer Distinguished Research Professor and chief of the Division of Cell Therapy, Duke Department of Medicine, the book "provides an international perspective on oncology treatment and survival and an an overview of global standards, best practices, and regulations."
It's being marketed as "an essential resource for oncology physicians including hematologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, and oncology nurses as well as hospitals, health departments, university authorities, governments and legislators."
Chao's co-editors are Mahmoud Aljurf, MD, (Oncology Centre, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, Saudi Arabia), Navneet S. Majhail, MBBS, MD, MS (Taussig Cancer Institute, Cleveland Clinic) MD, MRCP, FRCPath (St. George’s Hospital, London, Cell Therapy Facility, Singapore) and MD, MBA (Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida).
Gabe Alcantara, MBA, administrative director of the Hematologic Malignancies & Cellular Therapy Disease Group at Duke Cancer Institute (DCI), and Jennifer Frith, MSN, RN, OCN, NE-BC, director of clinical operations for Duke Inpatient Oncology and ABMT, are among the chapter authors.
"The book is intended for global deployment in areas that may not have such cancer centers," said Alcantara, who co-authored a chapter on administrative infrastructure. "It's scale-able and universal in that sense."
