Strike Out For Sarcoma

Step out on Sunday, Sept. 9, for the 9th Annual Strike Out For Sarcoma 5K and Family Run. The event, hosted by the Duke Multidisciplinary Sarcoma Program, takes place WakeMed Soccer Field in Cary, North Carolina.
According to the American Cancer Society a sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops from certain tissues, such as bone or muscle. Bone and soft tissue sarcomas are the leading types of sarcoma.
Sarcomas can be found in any part of the body. Most of them develop in the arms or legs. Although relatively uncommon, approximately 12,390 new soft tissue sarcomas will be diagnosed (6,890 cases in males and 5,500 cases in females) this year.
About 4,990 Americans are expected to die as a result of their cancer. Funds raised through Strike Out For Sarcoma benefit ongoing sarcoma research at Duke.
