The Duke Cancer Institute multidisciplinary Sarcoma Disease Group raised more than $47,000 for sarcoma research at it's 11th Annual Strike Out For Sarcoma 5K & Family Fun Walk, held Sept. 12th and 13th. There were 23 teams and 192 participants.

"Whether you organized a team, ran, walked or cheered on the sidewalk, kudos go out to you!" said organizers. "To all of those who donated we are extremely grateful! To all our SURVIVORS we honor YOU! Our pledge to you is a commitment to keep moving forward with our research & to find ways to improve how we treat this disease."

An estimated 800 to 900 people will have been diagnosed with osteosarcoma this year — half of them children and teens. And an estimated 13,130 will have been diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma this year.
