Julie Cardillo, 40, is photographed in her home, painting beside her dog Luna. She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, and has been free from ovarian and uterine cancer for two years. Julie teaches visual art at Ravenscroft School and also sells and exhibits her paintings. A former collegiate soccer player, she recently ran in a marathon, the Race to End Women’s Cancer, in Washington, D.C., where she was joined by 22 family members. This photo was taken in 2016.
