RTW Aim 3
What is the Purpose of this Study?
This program lasts four to eight weeks and is designed to help people get ready to return to work after a transplant. At the first visit, an occupational therapist will do a long evaluation that may take two to four hours. During this time, the person will do activities that copy real work tasks, such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and staying active for a long time. This helps measure strength, energy, and ability to handle work duties safely. The program also includes checks of physical health, thinking skills, and mental health. The team will talk with the person about their home support, motivation to return to work, past abilities, and previous job tasks. When needed, the team will also talk with employers about job duties and possible changes to make returning to work safer and easier.
This study wants to create a small program to help people recover after a stem cell transplant and return to work. The program will focus on helping the body, the mind, and emotional health. It will also provide support for social needs that can affect going back to work. The goal is to help transplant survivors feel ready and supported when returning to their jobs.
Who Can Participate in the Study?
People can join this study if they are between 18 and 70 years old and had a donor stem cell transplant at Duke. They must be between three and eighteen months past their transplant. They must have been working before their transplant and have already agreed to take part in an earlier survey. They also need to be willing to join an occupational therapy program that lasts up to eight weeks to help them return to work.
