A leading comprehensive evidence-based tobacco treatment training course for healthcare professionals and the public health sector is now 100% online. Participants across the country can begin earning their National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice (NCTTP).
The Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program (TTS) — a collaboration of the Duke Smoking Cessation Program at Duke Cancer Institute (Quit at Duke), the University of North Carolina Tobacco Treatment Program, and the North Carolina Division of Public Health — has recently made its nationally accredited course available as a virtual, web-based experience that blends online self-paced training and live interactive training sessions comprised of didactic instruction, problem-based learning activities, applied practice problems, and practice counseling.
The course utilizes findings from the most current evidence-based research on pharmacotherapy, population-based issues, practical guidance on running a practice, and targeted skills in tobacco dependence counseling.
Completion of the course fulfills the training requirement for the National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice (NCTTP), offered by the Association for Addiction Counselors (NAADAC). Self-paced pre-course work, mid-course work, and attendance at the live online training sessions is required. The national certificate also requires passing an examination and providing evidence documenting 240 hours of tobacco treatment practice experience following the training.
Course participants must attest to being tobacco free for at least six months prior to participating in the program.
Cost for the training is $1,100 to be paid upon registration. Registration fee includes access to self-paced online video modules, live interactive virtual training, a comprehensive tobacco treatment textbook and workbook, application processing, and CME coordination. Partial scholarships are available.
